Tata Swach, the innovation by experts of chemistry and Nanotechnology is the result of team effort of Tata Group Companies which includes TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), Titan and Tata Chemicals. The basic structure of Swach is built around a bulb-like water purifier made of natural elements like rice husk ash imbued with nano-silver particles, Tata Swach runs without using electric power or running water, obviously it can be a boon for rural areas where regular electricity is not available. The cartridge bulb of this equipment is filled with a purification medium which has the capability to kill bacteria and disease-causing organisms. The end result is the worlds cheapest water purifier with a starting price of 749 Rs., although there are variants with higher prices. It can purify up to 3000 litres of water after which the cartridge will not allow the flow of water. The water purifier gives the user enough lead time for cartridge replacement. It is not amazing that Tata’s have filed for fourteen patents for the technology of Swach.
The new product by TATA is going to be boon for common people in Indian and other parts of the world. It is a well known fact that most or the houses in Indian don’t use any sort of water purifier. However, with Swach things might change and we may see reduction in water borne diseases like Typhoid, Cholera, Jaundice and Gastroenteritis.
