As the marriage season has arrived it would be better if both the parties know about the prevalent prices in the contemporary marriage market. I have not intention of promoting dowry but still I would love to let you know about the prices. I have prepared this list after attending numerous marriages from different classes of the society. Please note that these rates are recession proof and they have only one direction to go and that is upwards, so don’t wait the prices may reach a new summit.
There are many wannabe grooms who project themselves as achiever just to dupe dowry money from the bride’s parents. One can easily find the self proclaimed achievers advertising their marriage on newspaper classifieds every Sunday. If you go through those advertisement you might end up feeling like India has progressed in leaps and bounds and none of the wannabe grooms are earning less than 5 lakh rupees. The story of wannabe brides is not very different and their marriage advertisements are also exaggerated in Sunday classifieds in most of the newspapers. The main goal of both the parties is to get the best out of each other. Girl’s parents want to give fewer dowries and on the contrary boy’s parents want the highest possible amount.
Dowry is despicable but it is the truth of more than 80 percent marriages in India. And for those who are more interested in more information; in more than 50 percent cases grooms parent try to force the dowry amount on bride’s parent. It doesn’t mean that bride’s parents are innocent, most of the time just to maintain their social status or to force their unworthy daughters on some boy they are willing to give more than what they can afford as dowry.
