Chartered air service started between Patna and Purnia from November , 2012. It was after three decades through nine-seater Spirit Air aircraft, commercial air link revived from Patna to Purnia through air .It was discontinued in 1978. This Air-taxi service will operate bi-weekly on Tuesday and Saturday on Kolkata-Purnia-Patna and Patna-Purnia-Kolkata routes .
However, being a non-scheduled flight, the airline can pull out its flight even at the eleventh hour if it finds the sortie economically unviable. It is supposed to operate for the six months, with promotional fares on Tuesday and Saturday even if there is a single passenger.”
On Tuesday, the flight leaves from Purnia at 12.50pm and reach Patna at 1.40pm. On its return, it leaves the state capital at 2.20pm and reach Purnia at 3.10pm. From Purnia, the aircraft fly to Kolkata -its origin destination – at 3.30pm and reach the City of Joy at 5pm.
On Saturday, the aircraft will leave Purnia at 9.50am and reach Patna at 10.30am. It will then return from Patna at 11.10am and reach Purnia at 12 noon. From Purnia, it will leave at 12.20pm and reach Kolkata at 1.50pm. The fare between Kolkata and Purnia flight has been fixed at Rs 3995 inclusive of all taxes and between Patna and Purnia Rs 3495
Spirit Air is trying its luck second time from the state capital . Earlier it started the air-taxi service between Patna and Jamshedpur was abruptly terminated after four months of operation in April.One of the notably fact about the runway length (11000 x 150 feet) of this air station is that it is the same as in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mangalore.
